CSSC Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (PLA Funded)

The CSSC Lean Six Sigma Black Belt is an advanced programme for experienced professionals who want to lead complex, high-impact improvement projects and develop expertise in Lean Six Sigma, advanced data analysis, project leadership and organisational change.
Designed for people in senior, management, technical or improvement-focused roles, the programme develops the capability to tackle significant organisational challenges, lead cross-functional teams and use data to deliver measurable and sustainable improvements.
A Yellow Belt or Green Belt qualification is not a prerequisite, although learners should have a good understanding of business processes and sufficient workplace experience and responsibility to undertake an advanced programme at this level.
Eligible employed adults in Wales can study this course fully funded through the Personal Learning Account (PLA).
About the Course
Black Belt provides comprehensive training across the complete DMAIC methodology – Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control – combining Lean Six Sigma techniques with advanced statistical analysis, project leadership and change management.
You'll learn how to:
Select and lead complex improvement projects aligned with organisational priorities
Develop project charters and engage key stakeholders
Apply SIPOC, Process Mapping and Value Stream Mapping
Use SWOT and PESTLE to understand wider organisational influences
Develop robust data collection and measurement systems
Undertake Gauge R&R and Process Capability Analysis
Use Minitab to analyse process performance and variation
Apply advanced graphical and statistical analysis
Use correlation, regression and hypothesis testing to validate root causes
Apply Design of Experiments (DOE) to understand relationships between process variables
Develop and evaluate improvement solutions using FMEA, Force Field Analysis and Pugh Matrix
Lead and motivate improvement teams using recognised team development and leadership techniques
Manage resistance and support organisational change
Develop control plans and monitoring systems to sustain improvements
Embed standardised working and Continuous Improvement within the organisation
What Will I Gain?
Black Belt develops an advanced combination of analytical, problem-solving, project leadership and change management skills that can be applied to complex organisational challenges.
You'll apply the methodology to a significant workplace improvement project, developing practical experience of using Lean Six Sigma to deliver measurable organisational results.
The programme can support progression into senior roles involving Continuous Improvement, Operational Excellence, Quality, Operations, Business Improvement, Transformation and Change Management, as well as consultancy and improvement coaching responsibilities.
Upon successful completion, you'll achieve a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification accredited by the Council for Six Sigma Certification (CSSC).
Black Belt can also provide a foundation for further professional development, including Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt.

Assessment: Online Multiple-Choice Exam plus completion of a Lean Six Sigma improvement project
Previous Yellow or Green Belt required: No – suitability is based on your role, experience and ability to undertake an advanced improvement project
Is Black Belt Right For Me?
Black Belt is an advanced programme and may not be suitable for every learner.
You do not need to have previously completed Yellow Belt or Green Belt, but you should be working in a senior, supervisory, management, technical or improvement-focused role and have a good understanding of business processes and organisational performance.
You should also be in a position to lead a significant improvement project, influence stakeholders and access appropriate workplace data and organisational support.
We will discuss your experience, role and proposed improvement opportunity with you before enrolment to ensure Black Belt is the right level for you.

This course is Fully Funded for employed adults in Wales who meet the Personal Learning Account eligibility criteria, funded by the Welsh Government.
