FMEA – Design & Process Risk Management

Apply Failure Modes & Effects Analysis to identify, prioritise, and reduce risks in design and processes.

This practical workshop equips participants with the skills to apply Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) in both design (DFMEA) and/ or process (PFMEA) environments. Over two days, attendees will learn how to identify potential failures, assess their impact, and prioritise corrective actions using the Risk Priority Number (RPN) method.

This course is eligible for up to 50% funding through the Welsh Government’s Flexible Skills Programme, making it an affordable way to build essential Lean skills and gain recognised accreditation.

About the Course

This two-day, hands-on workshop covers the applications of FMEA, the differences between DFMEA and PFMEA, and the key components of each. Participants will explore how to calculate the Risk Priority Number and apply it to real-world scenarios to identify and prioritise risks.

Through guided exercises, attendees will select a relevant product design to complete a DFMEA, or a process to complete a PFMEA, ensuring practical experience in risk identification and mitigation.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the applications of FMEA, DFMEA, and PFMEA

  • Distinguish between design and process FMEAs

  • Identify and describe the key components of DFMEA and PFMEA

  • Calculate the Risk Priority Number (RPN) to prioritise risks

  • Carry out a DFMEA on a selected design or a PFMEA on a chosen process

Who Should Attend

This course is suitable for:

  • Design engineers and process engineers

  • Quality managers and improvement practitioners

  • Anyone responsible for risk management in products or processes
